Basque Socialist Party

Basque Socialist Party
The Basque Socialist Party (PSOE-EE) was formed in 1993 by the unification of the Basque section of the Socialist Party (PSOE) and the Basque Left (Euskadiko Ezkerra), a group of nationalist origin. Traditionally, the PSOE had been hostile to Basque nationalism and had been seen as the party of workers from other regions of Spain. The unification gave the party a base in Basque cultural circles. It is the second electoral force in the Basque country and generally forms a coalition with the PNV (Basque Nationalist Party) in the regional government.
